Until Next Year

I've taken down Christmas 2013!

It's been a busy weekend and very productive.

It can't be any other way - I'm an Elf!

 If you're reading my blog for the first time, welcome!  If you've been one of my amazing followers and blog friends (love you all..and thank you) you may remember that I worked at a magical store called "The Elves Workshop".  I was one of "The Elves".  I worked there for many years and it truly was an amazing experience.   We sold everything "Christmas" and then some.  Besides all that was Christmas we had items such as mirrors, lamps, table decor and anything else that would help make any house a home.  Hostess gifts were a big seller.  Entertaining items would fly off the shelves.  We were known for our Christmas trees and fabulous decorations.   People would come from miles around to see what the year was showing.  What was new.  What they could purchase to add to their collection of Christmas decor.  Many would ask for "The Elves" to make something special for them.   Whether it was for a gift, mantle, wreath, two foot fully decorated Christmas tree, possibly spruce up an older piece they wanted updating or perhaps a couple new bows for their outdoor house lights.  We were there to create the magic, and we did.  She taught us how.  Myself, I was like a sponge.  I was young and I wanted to learn.   I thought this woman was a genius.  She could create magic in an instant.  I wanted to know everything and how to do everything.  I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to have learned from one of the best.  That's not only my opinion but the opinion of many in the business.  Not only did we learn how to decorate, we learned how to un-decorate.  Hmmmmm?  Is that even a word?  We learned how to put ornaments on a tree and how to take ornaments off a tree.  There is a way you know.  Who would have thunk?  We learned if it came out of a box, it went back in that same box.  She showed us how.  We learned how to put lights on a tree, how to take them off and package them up - neatly.  We were taught that if you take a few extra minutes putting your Christmas decor away it will not only save time when putting it back up the following year, your Christmas decor will LAST!  You've spent good money on your decor so take care of your investment.  Great advice!

It's "The Elves Workshop" way.

My way.

This is what I was taught, how I decorate and un-decorate.

Her name was Lois Stanger and she has been helping to decorate Heaven for a few years now.

Thank you Lois!

What A Little Monkey!

I hosted Christmas dinner on Boxing Day with my side of the family.  I was up early as any one would expect when preparing Christmas dinner.  Last minute cleaning and the food preparations were in full swing when the phone rang.  It was my sister asking how things were going and making festive chit chat when all of a sudden she started to scream with excitement!  My niece's water had broke and was headed to the hospital to give birth to their first child, a daughter.  Her baby wasn't due until mid January but she had other plans for her arrival!  If you're missing Christmas dinner with our family, there is usually a good reason.  I believe this one counts and then some!

Here is The Little Monkey!

Welcome to the family precious one.  From your Great Aunt, The Crafty Elf!

Twas The Night Before Christmas

THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS

by Clement Clarke Moore - Published in 1822

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;

And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter's nap,

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer,

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

"Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! on Cupid! on, Donder and Blitzen!

To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,

So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my hand, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.
He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;
A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!

His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath;
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly.

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,

And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.

But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night."

I Should Have Walked On By....

...but I couldn't! They reminded me of the Charlie Brown Christmas Tree - such potential.

Man...what I could do with that tree.  My little Elf toes are curling with excitement just thinking about it but unfortunately that story has been told and sadly I won't be trimming Charlie Brown's tree.

What I should have done was walk on by but I couldn't.  I picked  up three misfits, gifts that needed a little sprucing up.  Normally I wouldn't waste my time but the product was really good, it was the wrapping that left a lot to be desired.  Enter ....the Elf!

Here is one of the lovely gifts I purchased.  Lovely?  Ummmmm...not so much!!

The bow on the gift had seen better days and the cello paper was ....well, you can see for yourself.  I knew with a little Elf attention I could have this gift looking neater in no time.  Out came the glue gun, embellishments and ribbon.  I even added a little gold bell so when the gift is picked up it jingles....awwww. So festive looking now don't you agree?

For the record I don't go buying gifts that need to be re wrapped, that's just stupid!  Who does that?  No one!!  You just don't!  However, I did and I can't believe I did.  It was just that these were the perfect gifts I needed and let me tell you I stood there for quite sometime asking myself if I should buy them.  I looked at others similar but these were by far the best ones, they were just poorly wrapped.  I'm actually a little surprised that this large coffee establishment where I purchased these gifts allowed their product to get so manhandled and looking the way they did.  I wonder what Corporate would think?  I'm not going to go there but that's a good topic for another day.  Right up there with the germs being spread when you slide/stick in your debit card or credit card into those new little machine thingys at the stores.  I was behind a man entering his information after inserting his card and he sneezed directly on it - ewwwww!!!  I didn't know what to do ((squirm))...I was next in line and would be using it.  Out came the gloves.

Wherever you are in your day, I hope you're enjoying it!
Wishing you many wonderful creations!

 It's Wednesday again which means it's time for WOYWW

Julia, thank you so much for bringing everyone together
to share what we all love to do!

I'm actually writing this post Tuesday night!  Busy time of the year so you do, what ya gotta do, when you can do it.

What's on my desk you ask?
A glass of wine.
Why you ask?  Because I can!
My husband and I received a lovely bottle of wine as a gift so I felt it was important to open it.  It would be rude of me us not to open a gift, wouldn't it?  If someone gives you a gift ... I you have to open it, right?  I we did.

The truth?   My daughter and I just spent 7 1/2 hours at the mall - nuff said!  Open the gift and enjoy, that's what I did I'm thinking!!  I've earned it!  Such a naught Elf!!!!!   With only a few shopping days left it's difficult finding a parking spot, the pushing, the shoving, line ups waiting to pay,  "Sorry, we're all out of boxes." blah blah blah, I have no one to blame but myself!  To be honest, I think the hustle and bustle of Christmas is all part of the season and I like being a part of it.....for an hour - then I'm so over it.  I only had to pick up a few things but honestly, spending the day with my daughter was really important to me.  It wasn't so bad really, my daughter and I don't get to spend a lot of time together so this was a treat for me.

After deciding upon a special gift for someone, my daughter and I stood at the sales counter while the sales clerk rang up my purchase. Money exchanged hands, receipts were carefully put away by both parties and the wrapping began.  Had it not been for the many lessons I had over the years about the importance of wrapping a gift, I probably would have walked away thrilled at how meticulously my gift was wrapped.  Nope, that would be toooooo easy!  I couldn't just take the wrapped gift and be happy it was packaged nicely.  The lessons were now being played back in my head.  "Take a piece of tissue like so.  Fold it like this and do that and do this and then do that,"....blah blah blah blah!  As I stood there watching this sweet sales associate wrap like she was a machine, I couldn't help but wonder what would have been said to her had she worked as an "Elf" ("Elves" is what we were called where I worked).  I now believe I have a life sentence to .....Elfdome.  While standing there watching the sales clerk I'm thinking, she's doing it all wrong.  This poor thing wouldn't have lasted past the first step of "take the tissue."   She wouldn't have lasted one minute on the "Elf Wrapping Counter."  I kept thinking to myself that I would just have to go home and re wrap the Elf way.  How sad is that?  The entire time I'm standing there thinking...no, no, no....what are you doing?  When she was all done I politely thanked her and left with my wrapped gift thinking .... I'm going to fix this when I get home!  Oh my word.....I've been ruined!

In case you're wondering?  Here is my take on how to add tissue to a box when wrapping a gift.  I do believe presentation is everything and I do like my gifts to be presented as beautifully inside as outside.

...and that's how it's done  - the Elf way!

I want to thank each and every one of you so much for taking the time to visit and comment on my blog.  I know how much time it takes to balance all aspects of life so your efforts have not gone unnoticed.  Each and every comment is important to me and I believe in giving back.  My goal for this blog is to have fun, share ideas and what I have learned and most important, meet new friends through my craft journey.  This has been an awesome year for me and I look forward to may more.  I would like to wish everyone a Happy and Healthy Holiday Season and All The Best for 2012!

On A Grand Scale

Las Vegas sure knows how to decorate for the Holiday Season!  The past week was filled with so many wonderful sights, it was simply one magnificent display after another.  The city is truly larger than life and known for ensuring a truly memorable stay, Las Vegas has once again succeeded its goal!

I must share some pictures of one of the prettiest Holiday displays I have ever seen.  There were so many gorgeous fresh flowers and plants, I commend the tireless effort of the team that continuously maintained the stunning work of art!

The fence is draped in mixed green garland and pine cones.  The base of the arches where nestled in a sea of poinsettias

This was a display of three enormous polar bears created entirely from creamy white carnations.

There was a miniature train running around the bears.  They had a railway track frame on a post displaying the trains view as it moved around the track.  A camera was hidden inside the front of the miniature train.

A very playful polar bear rolling around in the snow while another stood by.

Snow dusted trees, ponds and fountains in amongst the colourful display of poinsettias.

A glorious show stopping silver and gold Christmas tree sparkled in the middle of the atrium.

Large silver urns overflowed with fresh greens and red roses

Fabulous!

Snowflake mirrors explain each display

Several penguins skated and twirled around while being watched over by protective parents.

I couldn't get enough of these furry little creatures!

This was an adorable display of penguins, ice and poinsettias!

I'm off to finish up some very important shopping and get a good start on the menu for a Boxing Day feast!  Six sleeps left...I better get a move on!  What plans do you have for the final week and do you have all your shopping done?

Wherever you are in your day, I hope you're enjoying it!
Wishing you many wonderful creations!
