Doily

A doily (or doilie) is an ornamental mat, originally the name of a fabric made by Doiley, a 17th-century London draper.  Doily earlier meant "genteel, affordable woolens", evidently from the same source.
In more recent times disposable paper doilies are used to decorate plates, placed under the food for ornamentation.


Above are a couple of lines from Wikipedia.  I've omitted 2 paragraphs (that you are welcome to read about here) because I was really only interested in sharing how the doily or doilie got it's name and how it's used in more recent times.  


I believe that many of you will agree with me that someone at Wikipedia needs to go back and revise their explanation.  Obviously, whom ever wrote this never made cards or scrapbooked before.  Having seen a few cards adorned with these little lovelies I thought I would give it a try.  

What another great element to add to a card and I bet you could have all kinds of fun with them.  They could be coloured, using a brayer with inks, chalks....hmmmm, that will just have to go on my list of things to try.

Cut Some Paper ......

..... strips and cross them is what Wendy at Splitcoast Stampers is asking for.   The Free For All challenge last Friday is all about just this.  Here is what Wendy had to say.

One of my new favorite things to do is to lay with strips of paper .... I love the effect you get when you criss-cross different patterns/textures to enhance your background.

Soooooo...... with that said, your challenge is simple ... cut out some paper strips and cross ‘em up!!! (Better yet??? Use up some of your strip SCRAPS!!! I KNOW you have ‘em!!)

Sounds like fun! 

Collecting all my K & Co. designer Christmas paper scraps, I went to work and here is what I came up with.

Wendy was right, you do get a great effect crossing the papers.  I've not made a card using this technique before but I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised.  Great idea!  To complete this card I added an ornament and a holly and pine embellishment also from K & Co.

Two Ribbons

Ooooops!
I'm posting a little late today as most of you probably know Blogger had a glitch and I believe all was lost that was posted yesterday, oh dear!  I've now redone Thursday's post (slightly modified as I can't remember what I wrote) and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I don't loose it again.  Stuff happens I know and in my case, wasn't so bad however it might not have been that way for everyone.  Yikes!

This card turned out much prettier than I thought it would originally.  I was pleasantly surprised at how lovely it actually ended up being.  The K & Co. designer paper is so soft and elegant that I knew I couldn't go wrong.  I took the two main colours of the card, olive and rose,  matched ribbons to each colour.  You'll also notice that the rose ribbon is just slightly thinner than the olive ribbon.

Preparing For Spring With K & Company Designer Papers In Mauve

Who can't be getting excited about Spring coming?  Only three sleeps away.....ohhhh, I'm so totally pumped!  In preparation for the wonderful season, I've created yet another card to add to my stockpile and I made this one in mauve.  The designer papers Julianne from K & Company are so soft and muted they work well with any style of card, I'm enjoying using them for my Spring Collection of cards.

It's So Close I Can Almost Taste It - I've Got The Fever!

Tuesday morning and the sun is still shinning....... just glorious!  Ahhhhhhhhh, SPRING is in the air and so close I can almost taste it.  I've got the fever - Spring Fever! 
Using the same designer papers as yesterday, Julianne from K & Company, I've made a card using all pink.  I'm getting ready for the new season and the spring weather.

Lovin My New Designer Paper

Happy March Break.  Well... here we are, Monday again!  The start of another week, Day Light Savings and the sun is shinning - Yipeee!  So much going on and I can taste Spring it's so close.

To celebrate Day Light Savings, I picked myself up some new Designer paper on the weekend from K & Company named Julianne.  It's quite pretty and I do love the patterns, the colours are so soft.  The first card I made was a "thank you" card and I decided to make it in the light blue.

Don't you just love the pattern on the paper?  I do.  K & Company has to be one of my favourite companies for papers hands down.
