It's Wednesday again which means it's time for WOYWW

Julia, thank you so much for bringing everyone together
to share what we all love to do!

I'm actually writing this post Tuesday night!  Busy time of the year so you do, what ya gotta do, when you can do it.

What's on my desk you ask?
A glass of wine.
Why you ask?  Because I can!
My husband and I received a lovely bottle of wine as a gift so I felt it was important to open it.  It would be rude of me us not to open a gift, wouldn't it?  If someone gives you a gift ... I you have to open it, right?  I we did.

The truth?   My daughter and I just spent 7 1/2 hours at the mall - nuff said!  Open the gift and enjoy, that's what I did I'm thinking!!  I've earned it!  Such a naught Elf!!!!!   With only a few shopping days left it's difficult finding a parking spot, the pushing, the shoving, line ups waiting to pay,  "Sorry, we're all out of boxes." blah blah blah, I have no one to blame but myself!  To be honest, I think the hustle and bustle of Christmas is all part of the season and I like being a part of it.....for an hour - then I'm so over it.  I only had to pick up a few things but honestly, spending the day with my daughter was really important to me.  It wasn't so bad really, my daughter and I don't get to spend a lot of time together so this was a treat for me.

After deciding upon a special gift for someone, my daughter and I stood at the sales counter while the sales clerk rang up my purchase. Money exchanged hands, receipts were carefully put away by both parties and the wrapping began.  Had it not been for the many lessons I had over the years about the importance of wrapping a gift, I probably would have walked away thrilled at how meticulously my gift was wrapped.  Nope, that would be toooooo easy!  I couldn't just take the wrapped gift and be happy it was packaged nicely.  The lessons were now being played back in my head.  "Take a piece of tissue like so.  Fold it like this and do that and do this and then do that,"....blah blah blah blah!  As I stood there watching this sweet sales associate wrap like she was a machine, I couldn't help but wonder what would have been said to her had she worked as an "Elf" ("Elves" is what we were called where I worked).  I now believe I have a life sentence to .....Elfdome.  While standing there watching the sales clerk I'm thinking, she's doing it all wrong.  This poor thing wouldn't have lasted past the first step of "take the tissue."   She wouldn't have lasted one minute on the "Elf Wrapping Counter."  I kept thinking to myself that I would just have to go home and re wrap the Elf way.  How sad is that?  The entire time I'm standing there thinking...no, no, no....what are you doing?  When she was all done I politely thanked her and left with my wrapped gift thinking .... I'm going to fix this when I get home!  Oh my word.....I've been ruined!

In case you're wondering?  Here is my take on how to add tissue to a box when wrapping a gift.  I do believe presentation is everything and I do like my gifts to be presented as beautifully inside as outside.

...and that's how it's done  - the Elf way!

I want to thank each and every one of you so much for taking the time to visit and comment on my blog.  I know how much time it takes to balance all aspects of life so your efforts have not gone unnoticed.  Each and every comment is important to me and I believe in giving back.  My goal for this blog is to have fun, share ideas and what I have learned and most important, meet new friends through my craft journey.  This has been an awesome year for me and I look forward to may more.  I would like to wish everyone a Happy and Healthy Holiday Season and All The Best for 2012!
Wherever you are in your day, I hope you're enjoying it!
Wishing you many wonderful creations!

  2. It's not just me then...yah!!

I worked in retail before I married and I often stand grinding my teeth at the way staff these days wrap, package and present change. They don't seem to have a clue about folding clothes before bagging them - I have been known to re-pack before even leaving the store so I don't arrive home with what resembles a crushed dish rag...and change, what happened to counting the change into the customers hand? Item cost £4.95 and customer gives £10 - you don't just throw back at them £5.05...you count it back "£4.95, £5, £10" and don't get me started on the missing 'thank you' - they are on to the next customer before you have even picked up your goods. Rant over.

Hope you really enjoyed your gift - yes it would have been rude not to open it.

Have a fab Christmas and I hope 2012 brings all that you desire.

  5. Thanks for the lesson in wrapping with tissue. I must confess I am hopeless when it comes to wrapping gifts but I do love receiving a beautifully wrapped one.
I have a box which a friend gave me years ago with my gift in and it comes out every year and sits underneath the tree - I just love the wrapping.
Have a wonderful Christmas - best wishes to you and yours. Hugs, Neet #4 xx

  9. Great story there and I love your little tutorial on the tissue paper - I am always a nightmare when it comes to tissue paper as some has to be lovely and neat and then some has to be shredded to bits (always depends upon my mood on the day really!). Have a wonderful Christmas. Sunshine Girl – No 38

  10. I laughed at you description of your thought process as the sales girl was wrapping!! How many times have I done the same! The only exception is a shop in Winchester where Julia and I have stood open-mouthed in astonishment at the glorious frou frou wrapping that is done free of charge!! I actually snuck back and got her a small prezzy from there just so she could admire the wrapping under the tree for a few days!
Wishing you joy and happiness this Christmas,
    Hugs, LLJ #43 xx

  11. Hello! Move to the UK no-one wraps and boxes presents over here for you so you can do it however you like! It would be horrendous if they did the queues are bad enough just buying things (takes an hour to go into 2 shops.....).I am a good girl and don't open anything until the big day! (I like opening presents so I like to maximise the opportunities!). Merry Christmas to you and all your family :)

  12. After 7 1/2 hours in a mall I'd be needing something a little stronger than wine to calm me down! Your gift wrapping skills are amazing but I bet the store clerks are just being told to get as many people through as possible! Have a wonderful crafty Christmas.

  13. Oh my! You'd fire this elf the second I touched any tissue or wrapping paper. I HATE wrapping presents and as such tend to just wad the paper around the box and smack some tape on it. Great idea... a case of wine on the desk. A bottle! I mean, a bottle.

  20. 7 1/2 hours at the mall... and you only needed one bottle of wine... I would need to crack a bottle at about the 3 hour mark... the wrapping story made me laugh out loud as I can't let anyone wrap presents for me as it does my head in... even worse is that my daughter has now caught the bug and we have turned into wrapping grinches... poor hubs... hope you have a wonderful Christmas...xx

  24. Hello Elf, just popping in late to say I've really enjoyed visiting your blog, and admiring your handiwork throughout the year and it's been fun getting to know you, virtually that is:) You really are meticulous in your wrapping - you definitely don't scrunch the tissue then :) I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. 25. Well, I’m nowhere near really for the big day . It’s almost 8pm on Christmas Eve and I still have pressie to wrap. Like you I love wrapping pressie and everything has to be just so, so I’m expecting to have a late night tonight.
Turkey’s in the oven though and smelling lovely so I think a nice glass of wine and I might be more in the mood, Lol!

Thanks for all friendship and comments throughout the year. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas.
